#1737 – Joomla Taxi Boonig - URL shortener

 Hi,

I haven't found any message in the support forum about the above topic and I can't believe that no one is using the option since Goo decided to end this api service.
Do I miss something about any replacement solution ?
Now, how do people that were using this option before it was closed ?

this was a really good service and we are also sorry that Google is closing it down.
The short URLs are still working but we have received some reports that new short URLs already create problems.
We haven't removed them yet as they are mostly operational but we advise you not to rely on them too much.
We haven't found a replacement yet and have no immediate plans to integrate a different URL shortner.

By Gconsole you can still activate the API and get an ID key even if end of service is clearly mentioned and dated.

I fully undertand that you can't update existing option without taking the risk to alterate the normal functioning of websites using old shotened url.

Therefore, there are only two options :
- or you create a new option based on a new url shortener provider taking the risk to see it close without more notice than Google's offers,
- or you find a alternative way to offer the same service.

About the second option, why don't you use the natural ability of Joomla to redirect an old url ? You just have to create the capapcity to store the parameter of your form in a form booking page and redirect the request through html code as you use to do it with the existing G shortener url ?
You can start with Private Tours for example. And once it is fix, you duplicate the process to the Address Search form.

Hi Luc,
we have no plans to change the shortner service as mentioned earlier.
You can use Search URLs to create any redirects to search results of Taxi Booking and this is good enough. It's not as pretty as short URLs and there is no built-in analytics like goo.gl was offering but they do the job perfectly.

My two first trials went wrong with an error message in relation with G Shortener url.
But now it is running well.

I don't understand what went wrong, but the most important is that it works now.
